FORGIVE: Peace of Mind & Body

There is a great price that we have to pay for keeping our pain and hurts in our hearts. Our tendency is to hate the person who hurt us and if we constantly nurse the pain and the unfairness that we experienced, be become powerless and make the other person powerful. Holding grudges and resentment in our hearts do more ills than good to our being. We become prisoners of our own pain and resentment and if we allow this “demon” to dominate our life, it can make us bitter, pessimist and cynical in facing life, to the point that even to enjoy a good night sleep becomes a tall order.
Researchers have recently found out that holding on to grudges and bitterness results in long-term health problems. Forgiveness, on the other hand, offers the following benefits: lower blood pressure, stress reduction, less hostility, lower heart rate, fewer anxiety symptoms, reduction in chronic pain, more friendships, healthier relationships, greater spiritual well-being, and an improved psychological well-being.
However, bear in mind that forgiveness is a commitment to one’s being. It can be difficult and it can take time; but it can be done. One has to forget one’s pride and must remind oneself that our journey in this world is ephemeral. Enlightened by what the Bible had said that we have to forgive those who hurt us seven times seventy-seven. Do believe that forgiving someone, the burden of pain and anger is totally and completely segregated from our being, and we no longer carry the monkey in our back, so to speak. To attain an inner peace is a decision and a forgiving heart is indeed a blessing from the Lord.
